Local_Admin Application
Notes
|
|
Adobe Auditions 1.5 |
Adobe website had solution which
worked. Bring up system in SAFE MODE and logged in as local_admin.
Then copied install folder from CD to desktop and ran the setup from
there. |
|
Alchemy 6 |
Tried making user admin once and
running—worked. Took away admin rights—doesn’t run “unable to
register server". Gave user security to Programs—Alchemy
folder—still error “unable to register server”. Had user right-click
and do “Run As local_admin”, it works. User will do this each time
she uses program. |

Login as Local_Admin, install, copy
shortcut to profile. |

Chemical
Inventory |
In order to run the Chemistry
Inventory program (with WEMS) under Windows XP, the chminv$ share
had to be mapped to H: drive. Also, some of the report queries build
metafiles in C:\Windows\Temp, which is not accessible by a normal
user. While logged in as local_admin, permissions were changed so
that the user had full rights to the C:\Windows\Temp folder.
Everything seems to be working now. - Ivan |
|
Oracle Client |
If installed as the user, NTFS perms
need to be modified. Login as the Local_Admin, add user with
Modify level to folder. Propagate
downward to all subfolders. Advanced-ChildObj. |
|
Palm Desktop |
Download the latest from palm.com
(currently 4.1.4) during install it prompts for admin credentials. |
|
DieBold - CS Gold |
As
Administrator: Grant Security Modify for users to c:\diebold
directory and c:\windows\system32\shell32.dll file.

|
FormFlow Filler (MIL) |
Add user to administrators, do
installation, remove user. Must be installed this way due to
some profile issue. It will also generate an error "unable to
edit registry" when launching program, but doesn't seem to affect
anything. |
|
GreenTree (HR) |
Add user to NTFS permissions, run the
program at least once as local_admin, then it should work as the
user. |
|
FinePrint (IBR) |
Granted username permissions to the
TEMP folder. |
|
HP Photosmart 1215 printer. |
Make user admin. Give security
perms to –Programs--HP & Hewlett Packard folders. Restart and log on
once and run with user as admin. Remove user from admin group -
Lenelda. |
|
HP Digital Imaging / Scanner Software |
Ran the install, granted FC on both
the file and registry and that allowed it to run. However, to
invoke the OCR software inside the program, it had to be run as an
admin the first time. Specifically, the profile using it had
to be an administrator the first time the OCR (DPE) was run.
Made user admin, ran OCR, removed user, worked second time. |

Please test if you have the chance.)

IIS |
There are several things that *have*
to be done and then potentially some more things that *may* needs to
be done. At a minimum, users needing IIS need to be approved first
as they will be running a web server on their desktop. Then
have CS create the exception OU and move the computer account into
it. GPUpdate. That will allow the services to be
started. If you get a "IIS Admin terminated" error, change the
RPC service to Logon as LocalSystem, reboot. You may also then
have to adjust NTFS perms on the web folder. You may have to
sync the passwords for IUSER/IWAM with the Metabase (DirSecurity
tab). You may have to use secedit.msc to add IUSR/IWAM to
several of the User Rights Assignments (logon as service, batch job,
locally, access from network). |
